A Halberg Success Story

Halberg Trust helps Nicholas get mobile

Nicholas tried to join in with his school’s cycle safety lessons, but turning corners or stopping while balancing – even with trainer wheels was very difficult. Nicholas has Down syndrome and his confidence has blossomed since receiving funding from the Halberg Trust Activity Fund to purchase a modified bike.

Nicholas had no idea about braking and peddling, all skills hIMG_3790 web.JPGe had to learn. Nicholas’s mother Andrea says everyone should know about the activity fund which has helped with her son’s self-esteem and confidence in doing everyday activities alongside his peers and family.

“The trike has given him a lot of opportunities to participate with his friends and classmates,” Andrea said.

The main goal is to support activities that are regular, ongoing, build skills and confidence, remove barriers and are fun! The Activity Fund is one example of the Trust’s commitment to giving more people with a disability, the opportunity to be more active, more often.
